LAUREN TRAIL
What Flows Through Us:
The Process
01
Research
Exploring our relationship with water and the environmental degradation we are facing- how do our lives intersect with the water that we consume and pollute?
Issues explored and researched:
-water consumption + consumerism
-the romanticization of water
-effects of water on people
-personal ties to the Great Lakes
-the idea of pressure (environmental, personal, and physically seen in water)
02
Iterations and experiments
As research continued and evolved, iterations evolved that highlighted and explored these issues and ways in which art (both fine art, but also narrative) can work to illuminate issues related to water consumption.
03
Narrative Development
Drawing from research and personal reflection, narrative production of the book began to piece together the storyline for this novel. During this time type, color palettes, and overall style were determined.
04
Production
Setting up page layouts, collecting references, and spending many long hours drawing made up the majority of this project. Production began in early January and was completed by mid March.
05
Printing
Once completed, the book was sent to a printer for limited printing, and is ready for audiences to read!
*Printing was primarily for exhibition purposes
